Institution

Institution is a creative project established by Galib Gassanoff to express his personal and aesthetic belonging, as well as the heritage of the cultures he is connected to.

Operating as a social-artistic organisation with an ethical foundation, the project extends beyond fashion. The name reflects this broader purpose: an institution as a humanly devised structure of rules and norms that shape and constrain individual behavior. All definitions carry a sense of persistence and continuity, values central to Institution. The debut presentation was held at Secci Art Gallery in Milan, where pieces were displayed on walls like artworks, highlighting their craftsmanship and construction. Most of the pieces were cut and built by the designer himself, conceived not only as clothes but as collectible, exhibitable objects. The collection uses natural materials such as silk, cotton, wool and leather sourced from deadstock of high-end producers, making each item limited. A signature hand-weaving technique, drawn from Galib’s Azerbaijani community in Georgia, replaces wool threads with cotton shoelaces, preserving a fading skill.
