Iamisigo
Iamisigo is a contemporary wearable art brand based in Lagos, Nigeria; Nairobi, Kenya; and Accra, Ghana.
Iamisigo is a slow design house rooted in Lagos, Nairobi, and Accra, dedicated to preserving Africa’s intangible cultural heritage through the medium of contemporary wearable art. Our philosophy is grounded in nomadic conscious craftsmanship, where every piece is an intentional act of storytelling—handmade from start to finish by African artisans using traditional, often endangered techniques.
At the heart of Iamisigo is a commitment to textile preservation, circular design, and regenerative fashion. Through immersive, real in-situ research with remote artisan communities across the continent, we unearth indigenous knowledge systems, heritage weaving methods, and ancestral practices. These are not merely aesthetics—they are forms of resistance, living archives stitched into fabric as a response to post- and neo-colonial narratives. Our accessories are made from Brass and glass making using techniques of old, our products are a dialogue between past and future; a tactile form of protest and preservation. We embrace locally sourced natural fibres, upcycled materials, and unconventional mediums—breathing new life into discarded textiles while minimising our environmental footprint.
Iamisigo is 100% artisanal. Each piece is handmade by master craftspersons, drawing on techniques passed down over generations—from loom to lookbook. This craft-led innovation forms the backbone of our creative process, reimagining Africa’s visual histories into culturally responsible fashion that transcends borders. We do not replicate—we reawaken.
By removing the boundaries between tribes, geographies, and ideologies, our practice promotes cultural hybridity and creative solidarity. UNISON in matter and space—a new global language for fashion that does not negotiate identity but honours plurality. Iamisigo is for the free-minded, the free spirited: those who wear their values, histories, and resistance with pride.
Iamisigo has showcased across the world—from Paris to Bogotá, Geneva to Johannesburg—and is stocked in select concept stores in Accra, Lagos, New York, London, Zurich, and Mumbai. Our collections have been featured in Vogue, Business of Fashion, CNN, and Elle, and worn by icons like Naomi Campbell.
Iamisigo is an artistic rebellion, and an embodied archive—designed to be worn, remembered, and respected.
Sustainability Requirements
Iamisigo is being onboarded to the Sustainability Requirements for SS27. By AW27, Iamisigo will be screened by CPHFW’s Sustainability Committee and must demonstrate compliance with the Minimum Standards to be eligible for the official Show & Presentation. Learn more about the onboarding phase here.
Please note that the Sustainability Requirements framework is not a certification scheme or audit. As such, complying to the Minimum Standards does not mean a brand or their products are “sustainable”, “responsible, “conscious”, “eco-friendly” or the likes. It simply means the brand has been screened by the CPHFW’s Screening committee Rambøll and are living up to Copenhagen Fashion Week’s admission criteria.
