Copenhagen Fashion Week and Renoon Introduce AI-Powered Sustainability Requirements Screening System
Today, Renoon and Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) announce a new collaboration, to introduce an AI - powered screening system for the Sustainability Requirements, powered by Renoon's technology.
The implementation developed for Copenhagen Fashion Week is a tailored application of Renoon’s Digital Product Passport (DPP) platform, built on years of assessing sustainability and operational documentation across a multitude of brand partnerships. It applies Renoon's proprietary system, configured specifically for the Sustainability Requirements screening and using AI-assisted assessment of qualitative responses and supporting documentation submitted as part of the Sustainability Requirements.
Scaling the Sustainability Requirements Framework Through Technology
The collaboration sets out a three-year plan with the aim of rolling out the AI-powered system across the fashion weeks and councils that have adopted the CPHFW Sustainability Requirements framework. As CPHFW's Sustainability Requirements scale across other fashion weeks and councils, Renoon's technology ensures that the same level of rigour is maintained at every implementation while enabling a simpler and less resource-intensive rollout to new partners.
Following a year of testing and development, Renoon and CPHFW are now preparing for the first pilot of the AI-powered screening system for the AW27 edition of Copenhagen Fashion Week.
The screening of the Sustainability Requirements will continue to be led by the external screening partner, Rambøll, and the AI technology will be integrated to support the screening process by reinforcing its consistency, auditability, and objectivity.
Strengthening the Future of Fashion Sustainability
Cecilie Thorsmark, CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week said, "We're very excited to partner with Renoon to explore how AI can strengthen the implementation of our Sustainability Requirements. One of the biggest challenges for fashion weeks and councils looking to use the framework has been the time and resources they need to invest in order to manually review and screen participating brands against the criteria.
By integrating AI into the assessment, we can make implementation much more efficient and scalable while maintaining the rigour and credibility of the framework. This not only strengthens the experience for our existing partners, but also makes it easier for new fashion weeks and councils to adopt the framework. We're optimistic that this will help accelerate its international uptake and, ultimately, increase the collective impact of our industry."
Iris Skrami, CEO and co-founder of Renoon, said, “Copenhagen Fashion Week set a bar that has become an industry-wide standard: one that anticipated the direction legislation and the coming decades would take. Now it’s about enabling the framework to evolve at the speed of the data and regulation moving underneath it, and we’re proud to be their partner in this next chapter.
The next era of sustainability won’t be defined by ambition alone, but by the infrastructure that enables it.”
About the Sustainability Requirements
The Sustainability Requirements framework was introduced by Copenhagen Fashion Week in close collaboration with their Knowledge Partners In Futurum and Dansk Fashion & Textile in January 2020. Since then, the framework has been updated during 2024 to reflect industry developments as well as changes in the EU policy landscape.
The Sustainability Requirements framework includes a set of Minimum Standards for brands, covering environmental and social considerations across the value chain. As part of the application process, brands are screened against their submitted responses and documentation for the Minimum Standards by an external screening committee led by Rambøll. Since the Sustainability Requirements framework launch, it’s been implemented by the Norwegian Fashion Hub, Oslo Runway, Berlin Fashion Week executed by Fashion Council Germany, British Fashion Council and Amsterdam Fashion Week.
About Renoon
Renoon is a regulatory technology and services company specialised in Digital Product Passport (DPP) infrastructure for fashion and consumer industries. Renoon operates at the intersection of technology, regulation, and industry transformation, helping brands turn fragmented product data into structured, interoperable, and regulation-ready digital records.
Digital Product Passports are the EU's mechanism for making product information (materials, supply chain, environmental impact, repairability) traceable, machine-readable, and verifiable. Under the Eco Design for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), DPPs will become mandatory for market access across a range of consumer product categories, with enforcement beginning in 2027.
Technology's environmental footprint is part of the sustainability conversation Renoon operates within. In practice, this means selecting AI use cases deliberately, optimising for compute efficiency over scale, and avoiding energy-intensive infrastructures - all within EU-regulation-alignment.
Renoon's work has been:
- Deployed with 30+ brand partnerships across fashion, luxury, and consumer goods
- Recognised by the United Nations as part of the UNFLN programme
- Integrated into EU Joint Research Centre (JRC) working groups shaping theDPP technical standards
- Active in CIRPASS-2, the EU's interoperability working group for product passports, and in standardisation work, including GS1 and GTS
