Alpha is a talent incubator showcasing and supporting the best fashion graduates from the Nordic countries
Aplha is a non-profit initiative that supports fashion talents from the Nordic countries in their early stages after graduation. It features graduate designers who show high levels of originality, creativity, craftsmanship and responsible design.
Each year 10 finalists are selected to present their graduate work at a joint fashion show at Copenhagen Fashion Week. Awarded designers receive mentorships, internships, and support to produce a commercial collection. Designers are selected by director Ane Lynge-Jorlén and a panel of industry experts.
For the 2022 edition, Ida Petersson, buying director at Browns Fashion, will handpick a designer and in collaboration with the Bear Scouts, the designer’s collection will be produced sustainably and available to purchase in Browns Fashion boutiques as well as online at brownsfashion.com. Bottega Veneta will offer one designer a 6-month internship at the studio in Milan. One designer will be awarded a monetary prize of 50.000 DKK, a study visit to UEDA College of Fashion in Osaka and a unique trophy created by artist Karl Monies. One designer will be selected to be featured in an exhibition at Designmuseum Denmark.
All finalists will receive a profile on Eyes on Talents, an invite-only platform that connects talents with established designers and brands.
Designers Nest talents have gone on to Givenchy, Maison Margiela, ACNE Studios, and GANNI.
Nordic fashion talents are all invested in designing for a more responsible and sustainable future. Recycling, upcycling, use of dead stock and non-toxic dyes are just some of the methods they use to reduce the use of virgin materials. Moreover, at Alpha they present unique one-off work produced as part of their graduation collections, which are not mass produced.
