Scandinavian Academy Fashion Design students present "Even the Nude is Never Naked"

"Even the Nude is Never Naked" showcases 2nd year fashion students gala designs. Examining the interaction between costume and body - where art, nudity, identity and fashion meet.Having explored a combination of Derrida, Barthes and Freud perspectives the students manipulated fabrics such as self-grown SCOBY, using bacteria and dry yeast, to imitate human skin. Another evening wear silhouette was made using polyester organza, covered in construction glue, creating a snug transparent dress adorned with iridescent droplet pearls. Silhouettes were also distorted and fragmented, drawing inspiration from sculptor Bogdan Rata, transforming menswear suiting with spherical bulbous formations, enhancing waistline and shoulders. The concept of being confined by one's own body was reinterpreted into a silhouette created out of upcycled suits, and draped on a mannequin with an office chair intertwined. All pieces in this exhibition were designed and made by hand by the students over a three week period.
