BIG NEWS: New CEO at Copenhagen Fashion Week
Copenhagen Fashion Week appoints new CEO
Copenhagen Fashion Week has appointed Cecilie Thorsmark as its new CEO, which means she will essentially be returning home to Copenhagen Fashion Week.
Cecilie Thorsmark, 35, will be joining Copenhagen Fashion Week as CEO by 1 November 2018 to assume responsibility for its operations and further development after a two-year stint as Global Fashion Agenda’s Communication Director. She has also previously served as the Head of Press and Communication at Danish Fashion Institute and Copenhagen Fashion Week.
Editor-in-Chief of ELLE Denmark, Cecilie Ingdal, who is on the Board of Copenhagen Fashion Week, states:
“It’s been an exciting recruitment process and I was impressed by the strength of the applicants. I don’t doubt for a second, however, that Cecilie Thorsmark has just the right profile to continue the superb work done by her predecessors at Copenhagen Fashion Week. What’s more, during the recruitment process, it was crystal clear that Cecilie has great ambitions for Copenhagen Fashion Week and a clear plan to implement them. I’m very pleased that she has decided to return to Copenhagen Fashion Week.”
Thorsmark has in-depth knowledge of the fashion industry, which has been the focal point of her entire career. She also has an expansive network at home and abroad, not to mention extensive experience working with a large variety of stakeholders.
Thomas Klausen, CEO of industry association Dansk Fashion and Textile and interim chair of Copenhagen Fashion Week’s Board, elaborates:
“Cecilie Thorsmark has a profound understanding of what it takes to run a fashion week, just as she possesses excellent communication skills and has a powerful international profile. She is used to working in an international organisation, speaks several languages fluently and has an impressive history when it comes to attracting international interest in events taking place in Denmark. Copenhagen Fashion Week is already an international event, but I’m convinced that Cecilie can bring it to the next level.”
Held twice a year, Copenhagen Fashion Week is the largest fashion week in the Nordic region. In 2017 it underwent a major strategy review to expand its position, which is where the new CEO will play a key role. Thorsmark is looking forward to the task.
“I’m delighted to return to Copenhagen Fashion Week and look forward to taking on the enormous responsibility of further developing, strengthening and future-proofing Copenhagen Fashion Week. I believe it has even greater potential, which is why I plan to work, for example, to reinforce Copenhagen Fashion Week’s sustainability profile and to create an international platform with Scandinavian fashion as its driving force,” emphasises Thorsmark, who holds an MSc in Marketing Communications Management from Copenhagen Business School.
